wELCOME!

Hello Dighton Families,

Welcome back to school! We are so excited for this upcoming school year and hope you are too! For many of us on the board, 2018-2019 will be our third and FINAL year serving on the PTO board. If you are interested in a board member position next year, we urge you to let us know! Many of the school events we help plan could not happen without the support of our dedicated parents and teachers...and especially our PTO board.

Jenn Cabral (previously Vice-President) was voted into the President position. Jenn's experience not only on the board but also working directly in both DES and DMS make her an invaluable asset to our board. We know she will do an amazing job as President.  And please welcome our newest board member, Erin Weafer, who was voted in as Vice President. Erin's previous work on PTO events including Santa's Secret Workshop and the 4th Grade Year Book has been nothing less than amazing. We look forward to working together this year to further enrich the lives of your children and continue to support the work of our amazing teachers.

Our accomplishments from last year include providing financial assistance for student field trips to places such as Canobie Lake Park, Buttonwood Park Zoo and Boston's Museum of Science (just to name a few) and for activities such as 4th Grade Step Up Day and the 8th Grade Francis Farm Event. We were able to provide funds for classroom needs as well as assist in requests from our teachers and staff.

Our biggest accomplishment last year was our Fall Fundraiser - the Boosterthon Fun Run (for DES) and Color Run (for DMS). Thanks to the combined efforts of our students, staff, families and friends, we nearly doubled the amount raised from our previous fall fundraisers. We were able to amend our budget to make field trips more affordable and provide additional Chromebooks to our classrooms. We will be continuing the Boosterthon Fun Run and Color Run again this Fall 2018. Like last year, our hope is that the run will raise school spirit, excite the students and enhance family involvement while raising invaluable funds for our school.

How do we do it? The PTO is a voluntary team effort in which we cannot succeed on our own. For this reason, we wholeheartedly invite you to participate in PTO meetings and activities throughout the year. Parent involvement in our schools is a fundamental part of what makes the school experience here so special.  If you’re a father, mother, guardian, and/or a person who teaches or instructs at Dighton Elementary School or Dighton Middle School, you are already a member! There are no sign ups, fees or paperwork… you are automatically part of this great and ambitious group!

Our monthly meetings are the perfect opportunity to learn about special events, fundraisers, and community news relevant to our families. Meeting dates are typically the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7 PM at Dighton Elementary School. You can find a list of the PTO meeting dates on the Meetings page.

No matter what your interests or working style, there is a job or task here that will suit you. Volunteer! Volunteer commitments can be as much or as little as you can manage: one-time or ongoing, during or after school, inside or outside of school, solitary or social.

Throughout the year, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact us.  We looking forward to working with you!  2018-2019 is going to be a great year!

Sincerely,

Your PTO Board
